Sportswear Size Chart: Youth & Adult Measurements (cm & inch)

Eliian cuts adult teamwear from XS to 6XL and youth kit from YS to YXXL on a standard EU fit. An adult M soccer jersey measures 72 cm long with a 110 cm chest; an adult M basketball jersey is 75 cm long with a 114 cm chest, because basketball kit is deliberately cut longer and looser. Every table below is the finished garment measurement taken from our own production patterns, shown in centimetres and inches, with a 1–3 cm tolerance for manual measuring. Sizes can also be cut to your own spec sheet at no extra charge, our minimum is 10 pieces per design, and a single order can mix youth and adult sizes at no additional cost.

How to read these charts

Two different measuring conventions appear on this page, and mixing them up is the most common reason a size looks wrong. Where a row says (around), the figure is the full circumference of the garment — an adult M soccer jersey chest of 110 cm means 110 cm all the way round. Where a row says (half, flat), the garment is laid flat and measured from seam to seam across one side, so the figure is half the circumference — a half-zip top with a 51 cm chest measures roughly 102 cm around. Baseball jerseys, half-zip tops and short-sleeve tees are measured flat because that is how those patterns are graded; jerseys, shorts and jackets are given as circumference.

All figures are garment measurements, not body measurements. A jersey has to be larger than the wearer, so do not pick a size by matching your chest to the chest column exactly. Where a chart also lists a recommended wearer height and weight, use that as the starting point and treat the garment measurements as the check.

How to measure

The most reliable method is to measure a garment the wearer already likes rather than the wearer. Lay it flat on a hard surface, smooth out the creases and take the measurements below, then compare them with the tables.

• Chest. Measure straight across 2 cm below the armhole seams, from edge to edge. Double it to compare against an (around) row, or use it directly against a (half, flat) row.
• Body length. From the highest point of the shoulder seam straight down to the hem.
• Sleeve length. From the shoulder seam to the sleeve opening. On raglan jackets we measure from the centre back neck instead, which is why those numbers are much larger.
• Shorts waist. Measured relaxed, not stretched. Elastic waistbands stretch a further 8–12 cm.

If you are measuring bodies instead, add roughly 8–12 cm to the chest for a match-fit jersey and 15–20 cm for a loose training or basketball fit.

Youth and kids size charts

Youth kit is sized by height rather than by age, because the spread within any age group is wide. Our youth range covers wearers from about 115 cm to 168 cm tall. Above that, use adult XS.

A loose training cut: the hem is wider than the chest at every size, which is intentional for layering over a jersey.

Jackets are cut with room to layer, so a wearer who takes an M in a soccer jersey will often take an S in a raglan jacket. Always check the recommended height and weight rows rather than carrying a size across from a jersey. Fabric and trim options are on the custom outdoor jackets page.

EU, US and AU size labels are not the same thing

The letter on the label means different things in different markets, which is why we publish garment measurements next to every size. Our standard grade is a European fit. A buyer in the United States will generally find our sizes run about one size smaller than a domestic brand, so a wearer who buys L at home usually takes XL from us. Australian labelling sits close to EU. Youth sizing is the one place where the systems diverge most, which is why the youth chart above is given in US youth sizes with the height range in both centimetres and inches.

If your league or school already has a size standard, send it to us. We grade to a customer spec sheet at no extra charge, and once a spec is on file every reorder uses it automatically.

Collecting sizes for a whole team

The single most common cause of a reorder is a size list collected from memory. Three things prevent it.

• Order a sizing set. We can send one piece in each of three or four sizes before bulk production so players try the actual garment. The cost is credited against the bulk order.
• Collect by height, not by letter. Ask each player for height and the size of a shirt that currently fits, not for the size they think they are.
• Add spare stock. Two or three extra pieces in M and L cost far less than a second production run and a second freight bill. Our minimum is 10 pieces per design, so topping up an order is inexpensive at the time and expensive afterwards.

Sports with their own fit rules

Three of the sports we cut for do not size the way the adult tops block above suggests, so read the garment page before you collect measurements. Rugby jerseys are cut close on purpose and the tight-five sizes are graded differently from the backs, which is set out on custom rugby uniforms. American football game jerseys have to clear shoulder pads, so the chest is graded up while the length stays short; see custom American football uniforms. Custom sizing and minimums

• Minimum order is 10 pieces per design, and youth and adult sizes can be mixed within that 10.
• Player names and numbers are included at no extra cost.
• Grading to your own spec sheet or tech pack costs nothing extra.
• Sample lead time is 5–7 days for jerseys and polos, 7–10 days for jackets and activewear. Bulk is 15–20 days and 20–25 days respectively, after sample approval.
• Reorders of the same design reuse the stored pattern, skip sampling and skip the one-time setup fee.

Frequently asked questions

Do your sizes run small?

Compared with US domestic brands, yes. Our standard grade is a European fit, so a wearer who takes L from a US brand usually takes XL from us. Compared with European and Australian brands the difference is small. Rather than guessing, compare the garment measurements above against a shirt the wearer already owns.

What is the difference between the (around) and (half, flat) rows?

An (around) figure is the full circumference of the garment. A (half, flat) figure is taken with the garment laid flat and measured across one side only, so it is half the circumference. A 51 cm half-flat chest and a 102 cm around chest describe the same garment.

Can I order one design in both youth and adult sizes?

Yes. The 10-piece minimum applies per design, not per size, so a single order of 10 can contain any mix of youth and adult sizes at no extra cost.

Can you make sizes to our own size chart?

Yes, at no extra charge. Send your spec sheet or tech pack and we grade the pattern to it. Once it is on file, every reorder is produced to the same spec.

How accurate are these measurements?

Allow 1–3 cm on garments measured by hand, and 1–2 cm on the flat-measured tops. Every figure is taken from the finished garment, not from the pattern.

What sizes do you go up to?

Adult soccer, basketball and jacket ranges run to 6XL, fitting a wearer up to about 215–220 cm. The baseball jersey pattern runs to 7XL. Larger sizes can be graded on request.

Do you provide a sizing sample before bulk production?

Yes. We produce a pre-production sample so you can check fit, fabric, colour and print before bulk starts, and we can send a sizing set covering several sizes. Sample fees are credited against the bulk order.
